Managing bank accounts (Estates and POAs)

How to manage transactions in a bank account of the deceased in an Estate, or the bank account of a grantor in a POA.

Accounts can be managed on the following file types:

  • Probate and Accounting

  • Estate Accounting

  • POA Administration

To log transactions in accounts of the deceased or grantor, the account must be managed.

Managing an account in Estateably:

  1. Realizes the account.

  2. Creates an opening balance for the account in the Accounting section.

How to manage a bank account

  1. Click "Inventory" in the left-hand side menu.

  2. Review the bank account you would like to manage. Verify that the Current Value is the correct initial balance for the account.

  3. Click on the bank account you'd like to manage, and click the "Manage" button that appears.

  4. A prompt will appear asking you to confirm you'd like to manage your account. Hit "Proceed" to continue.

This will take you to the Accounting section of the file, and create an opening balance transaction for the Current Value of the account.

How to change an opening balance for a managed account

  1. Click "Inventory" in the left-hand side menu.

  2. Click on three-dot menu next to the managed account, and select "Edit Initial Balance of Account" in the drop-down.

  3. Update the Current Value of the account.

  4. Scroll to the top of the screen and click "Save".

This will change the opening balance transaction in the accounting section to the updated value.

Once an account is managed, you can manage and add transactions within the Accounting section of Estateably.
