When defining a new holding, use the holding’s Asset Class and Sub-class fields to properly classify the holding for data accuracy and reporting.

  • When adding new holdings, start by selecting an Asset Class.

  • If more detail is needed, you can choose from a refined list of sub-classes. This ensures each holding is classified at the right level, whether broad like Fixed Income or specific like GIC.

  • If nothing fits perfectly, you can always select Other and then free-type the value you want to classify the holding with.

A Few Helpful Tips

  • Sub-Class is required if there’s a list of options available. Example: If you choose Equity, you’ll need to pick Common Shares, Stock, or another associated Sub-class.

  • No Sub-Class needed for Cash or Accrued Interest—they’re simple enough on their own.

  • When in doubt, pick “Other.” We know not every holding fits neatly into a box, and “Other” is there to keep things flexible. You can then free-type the value you wish to use.

The Asset Class & Sub-Class List of Values

Here’s your go-to guide when adding a holding:

Accrued Interest: No Sub-Class required

Cash: No Sub-Class required

Derivative: Forward • Future • Option – Call • Option – Put • Right • Swap • Warrant

Equity: Common Shares • Preferred Shares • Closely-held Corporation • Co-operative Apartment • Stock • Other

Fixed Income: Bond • Debenture • GIC • Note

Mutual Fund / ETF: Fixed-Income Fund • Equity Fund • Balanced Fund

Other: Use this if your holding doesn’t fit anywhere else. Type the Class value you’d like to use. No Sub-class applies in this case.
