Manage roles and file permissions

Administrators can customize which features and file actions each user role can access. This article explains how to view, edit, and save permissions for any role.

Access roles and permissions

  1. Log in to Estateably.

  2. Click the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner.

  3. In the left-hand menu, click Roles and Permissions.

You see a list of existing roles in your organization. Examples include Organization Admin, Team Director, Team Manager, Team Member, and any custom roles your firm has created.

Edit a role

  1. Locate the role you want to modify.

  2. Click the Edit (pencil) icon on the right-hand side of the role.

The permissions settings for that role open under the Management category by default.

Adjust file permissions

  1. At the top of the permissions screen, toggle from Management to Files.

  2. The screen displays all permissions related to estate files.

Within the Files category, you see sections such as General File Permissions, Case File Access, and Actions Within a Case File. Each section contains individual permissions you can enable or disable.

Save changes

  1. Review your selections carefully.

  2. Click Save in the bottom-right corner.

Your updates apply immediately to all users assigned to that role.

Important notes

  • Changes to a role affect all users assigned to that role.

  • Only users with appropriate administrative privileges can modify roles and permissions.

  • Always review permissions carefully before saving.
